František Kupka's life story is quite interesting. It tells us about a person who has seen his artistic work as a vocation and was always up to date in technology and natural sciences. He provoked many famous people like Guillaume Apollinaire and therefore died isolated and alone, but his works touch still with their purity.
I would like to further develop Kupka's work and ideas in this project. 3D programs are an extension of the previous two dimensional display options that were not offered 100 years ago. František Kupka's paintings should now become even more tangible and expand the viewer's perspectives.
I transformed three of Kupkas geometric paintings into 3D sculptures, that could be explored in Augented Reality.
Some of the shapes were "impossible shapes" so it was interesting to see them in 3D.
The AR paintings is embedded in a little app which includes information on the paintings and Kupka himself.
In our semester exhibition, the portraits of Kupka were the trackers that the 3D models could be discovered with. The app Augment was used.
